The main character Will McKenzie moved from private education to a comprehensive school after his parents seperated. He attaches himself to a fairly average group of boys, Simon, Jay and Neil after they try avoiding him because of his breif case giving him a geeky image. He is the most sensible one of the group but seems to get dragged into mischeif especially by Jay. Will would like to persue a career in the media or politics after being to one of the top universities in the country.
Simon Cooper is forced to look after Will on his first day, as they share a lot of the same lessons. Simon tries to avoid Will because of his breifcase, ‘clumpy shoes’ and ‘gay hair’, quoted by Simon. He eventually gives up avoiding him and becomes good friends with Will. Simon has had a huge crush on Carli D’Amato since he was eight, his attempts to impress her usually arnt a success, for exmaple vandilising her drive way by spray painting ‘Carli D’Amato’ inside a love heart.
Jay Cartwright is the most sex obsessed in the group, however, when it comes to the ladies he is very unsucessful. He often lies and over exaggerates on his past experiences because he is worried people don’t notice him, for example he claims he played for West Ham football team.
Neil Sutherland is the ‘slow’ one out of the group, he often believes Jay’s exaggerated stories. The boys in the group frequently tease Neil about his divorced fathers sexuality, which him and his father both deny. Howver, on the other hand, Neil’s older sister is the ‘eye candy’ for the boys when they go round to visit Neil.
